Have you also tried dialing using the long distance method? What happens when you dial (any error messages)?

One suggestion: try dialing other Brazil numbers to rule out the possibility that you are only having trouble calling this particular number.

Hello Sophia,

The dialing sequence you were given will not work for calls from Australia to the UK. To place this call you must replace the starting 00 with 0011 and leave out the zero you have before the area code 1202. You should have: 0011 44 1202 ??? ???.

This Bournemouth number is a landline. UK cell phones start with 7.

Hello,

It's very simple. You must add 00 to the full Canadian number: 00 1 ??? ??? ????. The same info plus more details is provided on the page below:
http://www.howtocallabroad.com/results.php?callfrom=india&callto=canada

As for the cheapest way to call: Skype has good rates/plans. There are also some calling cards with service from India such as SpeedyPin or Cloncom:
http://speedypin.com/

Hello Dave,

If the number you are dialing is a local number you can just dial it without the area code (the last 8 digits is the local number).

To dial long distance calls in Brazil you will have to add some extra digits. Namely, you will need to add 0 followed by the carrier code and area code: 0 xx yy ???? ???? (xx is the carrier code and yy the area code). Below is a Wikipedia page explaining carrier codes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_numbers_in_Brazil#Long-distance_dialing

If you want to call internationally (to the US for instance), just use the plus sign with your cell phone followed by the international number. Example: you would have +1 ??? ??? ???? for a call to the US.

Hello,
Just make sure your ATT international roaming service is activated before you leave for Spain.

Your family will call you the way they usually do, ATT will take care of connecting the call to wherever you are.

In Spain, give your conference partners either +1 ??? ??? ???? or 00 1 ??? ??? ????. Both methods work, the first one is generally used with cell phones. Example: +1 702 000 0000 or 00 1 702 000 0000.

I am from the US and have an iphone with ATT service -- and am traveling from the US to a conference in Spain. My colleagues are coming from all over the world. We are asked to share our cell phone numbers so that we can reach each other while in Spain. What country codes should I give to my colleagues who are coming from Israel, Italy, and the UK so that they can reach me while we are all in Spain on my US Cell number. Do I add something in front of my XXX XXX XXXX number? In other words, when giving out my cell phone number to the international community while we are in Spain, what should I tell then to dial before dialing my usual cell phone number?

Second question: how does my family (in the US) reach me on my cell while I am in Spain? What codes do they need to use?

Hello,
The call should go through no matter where he is if he has roaming service. To call you don't need to change anything - just dial the Japanese cell as if it were still in Japan. From the US you would have 011 81 followed by 10 more digits. Is this how you've been dialing with no success? If so I believe the issue is on their end not yours.

Hello,
These short numbers are meant to be called from within Egypt. If the bank you are trying to contact has a website they likely publish a contact number for calls from outside the country. Or, again if they have a website, they usually have a "Locate your branch" section. In this section regular phone numbers are generally provided.

I hope this helps. If you still can't find their contact info I could try it - I would need the bank's name.

Hi Jean,

Only those staying in the US will be able to reach these phones traveling across Europe by dialing the regular phone number without any additional prefixes.

The international dialing format for a US telephone number is indeed +1 ??? ??? ????. This means that the plus sign is either to be replaced with the local exit code (00 for all European countries including the UK), or the plus is actually dialed (works with cell phones from all countries).

So, to recap, the number to be called and also to be given to the Police is: +1 ??? ??? ????. In addition, 00 1 ??? ??? ???? should also work (whichever you prefer).

Grandparents, daughter & 3 grandchildren (ages 9 & 11) will be in London (and perhaps Paris)in June. Grandparents, daughter and 1 grandchild will have their US cell phones. We're having ID bracelets made for children and need to put the correct cell number to call should a child become lost. All cell phones are with AT&T and we have the world traveler coverage. 2 of us have talked to AT&T. One representative said the children should simply call the regular cell phone number WITHOUT ANY PREFIXES. Another representative indicated we need to dial "+1" and the US area code and number.
I want the ID bracelets to reflect the correct numbers for the girls to call: What prefix, if any, does the child with the cell phone use to call us? And what number with prefixes would the girls without cell phones need to give to policemen, etc. to reach us? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

There are two types of situations in which the plus sign is used for international dialing instructions:

1. The way we use it on this site where the plus sign has a separating role between the elements of a calling sequence (IDD code, country code, etc). For example, to call from the US to a phone in Italy you would enter: 011 + 39 + phone number; however, you don't actually dial these plus signs, you just use 01139 followed by the Italian number.

2. You will sometimes see an international number starting with a plus sign. The example above will be: +39 followed by the phone number. In this case the + replaces 011 which is the US IDD or exit code. Here you will actually have to dial the plus or use 011 instead - either way works.

The plus sign can be dialed when using a cell or VoIP phone to place the call. Look for + on the phone's keyboard (for cell phones it is usually one of those characters that can be entered by dialing a button twice). Many landline phones do not have the capability to dial +.

There's also an article we wrote a while ago on the subject:
http://www.howtocallabroad.com/qa/plus-sign.html

Susie,

The number they gave you is an Australian cellular phone. Just like we discussed in your previous thread on how to call the UK, Australian phone numbers, just like UK ones, start with zero for national calls. The zero is to be left out when dialing the same number from outside Australia.

Secondly, Australian cell phones do not use area codes. So, when looking at our page on dialing to Australia, if you look further down the page you'll see a paragraph giving instructions on how to call Australian mobile phones. You'll see there that all Australian mobiles start with 4 - just like the number you have.

In conclusion you should dial 011 61 414503???. Note that charges for dialing to a cell abroad are often higher than charges for calling landlines.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Yes, you don't actually dial the plus signs we use in our dialing instructions. For a US call from Ireland you would actually dial: 00 1 ??? ??? ????. However, when you see a US number in the format +1 ??? ??? ???? you can actually dial the plus (when using a cell phone to call), or you can replace the plus sign with your country's exit code (00 for Ireland and the UK). Below is a page where you can find more info on how the plus sign is used:
http://www.howtocallabroad.com/qa/plus-sign.html

Once you're using the exit codes for example 00 and then 44 you don't need to dial the + sign in between.

Simply dial 0044 then the required number.

I've checked the country and exit codes, but am still a little confused about using the plus signs. Please help. Many thanks.
