Hi Jeff,

No, New Zealand cell phones do not incur charges for incoming calls. You will however pay higher rates than you would for dialing a NZ landline.

Hi Ellen,

The dialing pattern Country Code + 0 is not valid for countries using zero as a trunk code. However, there are some countries (Italy is an example) that have zero as part of their phone numbers. In this case, dialing CC+zero is a must since you can only reach a person if you dial the complete telephone number. I do not have a list of these countries, frankly, besides Italy I do not remember of another one.

It seems that the ITU says that the dialing pattern CC+0 is not valid internationally. However, there are several exceptions. Is there a resource for those countries who do allow leading zero?

The instructions we give are for all of Cuba. We list the starting 5 for our visitors to be able to recognize cellular numbers. This is not like an area code, it's a digit that's part of cell numbers in Cuba. In other words, the number your husband gave you would normally be already complete and you wouldn't need to add anymore digits. The thing is that likely the military base over there uses some special services to communicate. Have you tried dialing the way your husband told you? On second thought, maybe he knew something we don't. Try that also.

Patrizia,

The 001 in the beginning makes no sense (it can't be used from anywhere). The correct way to dial from Europe is 00 53 99848.. and from the US you replace 00 with 011. Again, it's difficult for me to guess why the call doesn't go through. Could be a problem with the number (a missing digit for example). Or could be a problem with the service you are using to dial. To eliminate this last possible cause try using a different line to dial this number.

This is indeed how you dial Guantanamo Bay (since it is in Cuba). It's hard to tell why it won't go through. What is the number you are dialing exactly (you can replace the last 2 digits with ?? if you don't want to make it public)?

Well, if it rang then that means you dialed correctly. Have you tried emailing your office instead of calling them? PC-to-PC calling is also free you may want to try this instead of calling using a regular phone.

I have tried to call from france to a mobilephone in morocco without putting the code 00212 so i dialed 06xxxxxxxx and it rang but it wasn't who i expected to answer the phone. As i didnt know it was?I hung up! Could it be perhaps somebodys elses phone in france with the same number? because in france they use the exact same starting number 06xxxxxxxx
Then I tried with the code from a fixed line and it just rang and rang with no message voice box to leave a message? How could this be that with or without the code it rings?Do you have to put the code or not?
Thank you very much, If you can reply to me very soon!

Hello,

I see you are from Canada so I suppose you are trying to dial a Canadian/US toll free number from Portugal. First of all, if you will be able to dial the toll free number the call will not be free of charge. Toll free numbers are meant for free of charge calls dialed within a particular country. Secondly, some companies block access to their toll free numbers when called from abroad just because it doesn't make sense for both parties to pay for the call. Now, to call a Canadian/US toll free number from Portugal you should dial: 00 1800 (or whatever toll free prefix) ??? ????.

Hello,

You will dial numbers as locals do (you don't need to add the plus sign or country code 31). In this case you will add a zero in front of the cell number and this is what you will dial: 0618707???. Same dialing pattern for when you'll use a Holland cell.

I've combined your posts. To dial your husband's US cell you will have to enter +1 followed by area code and 7 digit cell number (or you can use 00 instead of the plus sign). Note that in this case you'll both incur international charges.

But, if you are simply worried about losing minutes already on your card, do not. Even after you can no longer use card due to time of use being passed, the next time you add money, you will get ALL your minutes back.

Hello,

If this is a Phillipines registered cell (and it looks like one) then you are dialing the right sequence when using 001 63 99.... It could be that your prepaid phone no longer has international calling activated. I would call the phone company providing the prepaid plan to inquire about this.

As for entering the plus sign - look for + on the cell phone keyboard. If you see it on one of the keys try quickly pressing it twice.

verizon wireless sold us an escapade phone for my daughter's trip to japan. however, it only worked when she first got to her hotel in kyoto. (she was able to pick up 3 texts that I sent her previously and get one out). Don't think she used any special exit or country codes to send her text and I didn't to text her. Since then, throughout her stay (KYoto, Okayama, Tokyo) hasn't received any messages or been able to send and I can't reach her by voice either. She updated roaming and has tried exit codes +, etc. and I have done the same but no luck. I tried to call her with exit/country codes and got number not in service message. Calling without them I was able to reach her voicemail, but no idea if she'll be able to retrieve, since none of my texts has been delivered.

im currently in south korea and my wife is in the philippines. i have a prepaid korean cell phone but am unable to call her cell from mine with the instructions posted. ive been able to call the U.S. before with this phone a while back.

i would dial her number as follows: 001 63 09997536???
i also tried these: 001 63 9997536???, 00639997536???, 006309997536???

i would like to try the plus sign but i have no idea how to do that on this phone... it's different from an american phone. i've tried holding 0, *, #, and a combonation of other things with no luck so i really dont think i can get a + sign.

i have called the U.S. before but it's been a while and i forgot the sequence of numbers i used but obviously it will be different for calling a cell in the philippines.

if you could help me i'd greatly appreciate it... thanks!

Regarding international rates: calling to a cell phone will cost more in most cases, including calling a UK cell. The majority of service providers advertise rates charged for calling a landline because they are the lowest. Generally they also provide info on charges for dialing a mobile number - you just have to look for this info.

Yep I did try that. And nothing worked for the longest time and miraculously it did finally work!!! So I was happy about that. I had signed up for 20 free minutes with dial advantage and I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM. I though I was getting 20 free minutes and it turned out it was only 2 minutes!!! When I aked them they said it depended on the country I was calling and it would be UP TO 20 FREE MINUTES. Nice play on words so they don't get accused of false advertising. It also said it would cost up to $.201/minute but it ended up being $.435/minute. Man, what a freakin rip off!!! But my friend ended up calling me anyway. So it all turned out good in the end. Thank you both for replying!!!!

Does any one have suggestions on prepaid pinless calling cards? Low cost and all that.

You do not add any area codes to a UK cell number. These numbers have the following format when dialed nationally: 07??? ??? ???. To dial a UK cell from outside the UK you must drop the zero and you should have: 011 44 7??? ??? ???.

Hi Mary,

Generally these UK special numbers can not be reached from outside the country. The correct way to dial this number would be: 011 44 844 7???. Try this but again, these numbers are meant for calls from within the UK so it is unlikely that you will be able to get through. This business you are trying to reach must also have a regular contact number.

I'm trying to call from a landline in the USA to a cell number in the UK and it's not working. I have a prepaid calling card so I dial the access number first then it asks for the number I am calling. I have so many variations by dropping zeros and such and nothing works it keeps ringing busy even when the person I am trying to connect with isn't on th phone. I dial 011 - 44 - 01634 (region code) and then the cell number and yes I did drop the zero it began with, but nothing worked. What am I doing wrong? I even dropped the region code and the automated voice says that is not a valid number so I'm at a loss here. If anyone out there knows how to help me it would be bery much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You should dial her US cell number as if she were still in the US. The US wireless provider will then redirect the call to Ireland. You will not incur any extra international charges, your daughter will.
