On July 31, 2012 the length of East Timor cell phone numbers was increased from 7 to 8 digits by adding digit 7 to existing numbers:

    -7?? ???? becomes 77?? ????.

A new range of cell phone numbers were also introduced on the same date: 78?? ????.

The change was announced on June 6, 2012 by the Ministry of Infrastructure in East Timor(Timore-Leste).
