   Yes, sorry for the somewhat crappy Topic Title, but here's my issue:

   A friend of mine is on a trip abroad. He has a US cell phone. If I were to call him using my landline phone (also in the US), would there be any extra fees? Also, would there be any extra fees if he were to call me?

   Not for you. There will be extra fees for your friend in both cases. See this page explaining how calling a cell phone roaming abroad works.
