Malawi telephone numbering change - March 31, 2009:
All mobile and some fixed telephone numbers in Malawi will change from 7 to 9 digits as follows:
- Carrier Malawi Telecom - fixed numbers of the format 1 ??? ??? will remain unchanged
- Newly licensed fixed operator Access Communications: numbers issued will be 9 digit - 2 1??? ????
- Newly licensed mobile operator Globally Advanced Integrated Networks Ltd: numbers issued will be 77 ??? ????
- Mobile numbers of the format 4 ??? ??? and 8 ??? ??? will be added digits 88 to become 88 ??? ????
- Mobile numbers of the format 3 ??? ???, 5 ??? ??? and 9 ??? ??? will be added digits 99 to become 99 ??? ????
