Mobile telephone numbers in Mauritius were migrated from 7 to 8 digits on September 1st, 2013. The change was announced on August 16, 2013 by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority Port-Louis.

Digit 5 was added to all existing mobile phone numbers starting September 1st. No parallel running has been implemented – just an announcement triggered for calls to the old 7 digit numbers.

Example: old mobile number 29X XXXX becomes 529X XXXX after September 1st, 2013.
