   Hi what prefix to the US area code needs to be added to phone a US cellphone from a UK cellphone when in the US. I can phone US landlines but not cellphones and can phone US cellphones from the UK without any problem.

   Hello,

   It depends on where the phone is registered. There are 3 ways to place a call in the US:
   -dialing just the local 7 digit number for local calls
   -dialing the 3 digit area code followed by the 7 digit local number usually working for calls outside local calling area
   -dialing 1 before the area code (1 ??? ??? ????) for state to state calls or for calls to US territories abroad

   The latter two methods often work for local cals as well.
