Hello, I am from Romania and I just want to call an indonesian mobile number but apparently there is a problem. It either rings forever and no one answers, either a robot keep saying the number is not active or is not available. The person I am trying to call also keeps mailing me that has no lost calls, therefore I am thinking that the call may not reach the phone. Strange that sometimes keeps ringing. Another strange thing is that the number I have exceeeds with one number the regular mobile number format which is presented here on the site: 00+62+8?+????+???(?). The number I have is 00+62+81+9143+06???. I tried calling without the last number but is says the number is not available. I would appreciate some suggestions, the number has been sent to me several times so I don’t think is wrong.

    Hello Alexandru,

I don’t have time to reply now – I will research this matter and get back to you later on today. In the meantime, you can send me the complete number and I will try to dial it from my end to see what happens. If you agree to do this use the Contact button to send me the number.

OK. I called the number you sent me and I could hear a message in I suppose Indonesian and then in English informing me that the number is not active or something (I can not recall the exact wording)

After doing a bit of research it seems that there are indeed newer Indonesian cell numbers which are 11 digit. Moreover, according to this Wikipedia page the number you have is a prepaid cell phone. Certainly there is an issue on your friend’s end. Possibly they can’t receive calls from outside Indonesia. I know it sounds unlikely, but I can’t think of any other reason unless this person is sending you a number that’s not in service. Ask them to contact their wireless provider and inquire about this issue.

One other thing: have you tried texting this number?

First of all, I want to thank you for all the research. Secondly, this was in my mind too, that this number can’t receive calls from outside, perhaps because of the politics of the mobile provider. At least now I can be sure. I have read the wiki article also. Didn’t thought that would be a prepaid number. Thirdly, no, I haven’t tried texting the number. I presumed that won’t work either. Now I’m thinking to ask that person for another number, preferably a fixed one and hope it will work. Thank you again!
