    The Saudi Communication and Information Technology Commission has just announced a change in Saudi Arabia’s fixed telephone numbering system. Namely, all current single digit geographic area codes (1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7) are going to be added digit 1 to form 2 digit area codes: 11, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17.

    The change will be implemented in two steps:
    -starting May 13, 2013 area code 1 (Riyadh area) becomes 11;
    -starting August 18, 2013 all the remaining area codes codes will be updated as described above.
