1 + NANP area code + 7 digit number

Sample call:

RatesAre calls between 2 NANP countries charged international rates?

This is an important issue as it might seem logical to deem calls within countries sharing the North American Numbering Plan as being domestic calls. This however is not the case: calls between NANP countries or territories are considered international calls and charged accordingly. The good news here is that these rates are usually not much higher than domestic rates and in some cases are even lower.

Dialing from outsideDialing to a NANP country from any country outside North America:

To call from a country outside North America to any of the countries regulated by the NANP you should dial the following: your country's exit code + 1 + ??? + ??? ????.

Sample calls:

  • From France to the United States: 00 + 1 + ??? + ??? ????
  • From Japan to the Bahamas: 010 + 1 + 242 + ??? ????
