Would like to call a friend in Australia on their cell phone. Does it cost them anything to receive a call from the US?

Unlike the US, most countries including Australia do not pay to receive calls to their cell phones. So the answer is no, they won’t pay a dime to receive your call. You however will incur international charges that are higher than those you would pay for calling an Australian landline.
