    The Comision Nacional de Comunicaciones (CNC)), Buenos Aires announced an update of 21 area codes in Argentina. The change was implemented starting November 27, 2011 through April 1, 2012 and mostly consists of four digit area codes becoming three digit. In addition, digit 4 was added to local numbers in all cities where the new area code is three digit. The purpose of this change is to increase the number of available combinations for telephone numbers in the 21 areas, due to growing demand from wireless providers.

    • Formosa: 3717 >>> 370
    • General Roca: 2941 >>> 298

    Example:

    Former Catamarca number (area code included) 3833 ??? ??? becomes 383 4??? ??? after the change.
