I have been successfully phoning a French mobile (+33 number) located in France from a UK landline, via 0844... cheap-calls company (0.5p per minute). But the French mobile is now in Italy. Q: 1) Are cheap calls still possible from a UK landline? 2) What is the procedure? Glad of any advice you can give.

    Hi Michael,

The mobile phone's location is not your concern. Just dial the number as if it were in France (+33) and their wireless provider will automatically redirect the call to Italy. Moreover, you will pay the same rate (the additional roaming charge is paid by the French mobile phone owner).

I had hoped above all to avoid the French mobile phone owner having to pay roaming charges but, from what you say, that won't be possible. So we'll find another way. Thanks very much for your quick & clear reply.

One way to avoid roaming charges would be to call each other via Skype or other VoIP service (this would require access to a WIFI or 3G broadband connection).
