Calling from cell phone when both phones are out of country

My cell phone and my travel companion’s cell phone are from the USA. We are travelling to France. How do we call one another while in France? How about texting?

Hello,

To call and text each other while in Europe use the following:
00 1 followed by the 3 digit US area code and 7 digit local number.
