I am new to this so bare with me. I want to call a number in the UK (01423 771 ???). My issue is that it says for me to dial 011 + 44 + the 10 digit number. So, do I drop the 0 and dial 011+44+1423 771 ???

    Hi Danichols,

Indeed, you must drop the starting zero which is a so called Trunk Code and is used for long distance calls within the UK. The US has a trunk code also which is 1 – that’s why you dial 1 + area code + phone number when calling interstate. This page lists trunk codes for all countries https://www.howtocallabroad.com/codes.html

Heads-up

Some information on these forums could be outdated - countries change their numbering plans periodically. We recommend using our top menu to double check the correct instructions for dialing to a specific country.
