I keep on calling Italy, and no matter what time I call I get a busy signal, the number I am calling is 011-39-974-935-??? and i know it is not busy. Can you look and find if there is a problem, I would appreciate a reply.

    Hi Tony,

Geographic area codes in Italy start with zero. It is my belief that you, for some reason dropped this digit. In short try dialing 011 39 0974 935 ???.

I want to add more information here for there is some confusion when dialing Italy landlines. Most countries that have telephone numbers starting with zero use this digit as a Trunk Code and for domestic calls only. When calling the number from abroad the starting zero must be dropped. However, Italy is an exception to this rule – this country uses geographical area codes that integrate 0 as the starting digit. Example: area code for Rome is 06 and when dialing Rome from the US for example you will enter: 011 + 39 + 06 + local number.

Heads-up: some information on these forums could be outdated - countries change their numbering plans periodically. We recommend using our top menu to double check the correct instructions for dialing to a specific country.
