Mauritania telephone numbering changes

    The Autorite de Regulation de la Republique Islamique de Mauritanie announces a new numbering plan for telephone numbers in this country starting January 1, 2011. The upgrade from the previous plan consists in adding 1 digit to all fixed and mobile telephone numbers. As a result, Mauritania will have an 8 digit closed numbering plan across the country. Below is a list of digits to be added to the old 7 digit numbers after January 1, 2011:

    Fixed numbers (landlines)

    -50? ???? becomes 250? ????
    -58? ???? >>> 258? ????
    -59? ???? >>> 359? ????
    -51? ???? >>> 451? ????
    -digit 4 is also added to fixed numbers starting with 52, 53, 54, 55, 56 and 57

    Mobile numbers

    -2?? ???? becomes 22?? ????
    -3?? ???? >>> 33?? ????
    -4?? ???? >>> 44?? ????
    -60? ???? >>> 460? ????
    -61? ???? >>> 361? ????
    -62? ???? >>> 362? ????
    -63? ???? >>> 363? ????
    -64? ???? >>> 464? ????
    -65? ???? >>> 465? ????
    -66? ???? >>> 366? ????
    -67? ???? >>> 467? ????
    -68? ???? >>> 468? ????
    -69? ???? >>> 469? ????
