Texting from the U.S to the U.K

I have been wanting to get ahold of my best friend in Maidstone for quite some time.
anyone know how to text from the U.s to U.K cell phones?

My phone keeps telling me to make sure that my sms verify center settings are correct.

Is it a phone problem?

It seems that you need to perform some settings on your phone to be able to send text messages. I believe calling your wireless provider to inquire about this would be best.
