During the month of October 2008 Vietnam has made some changes to its fixed telephone network:

    1. Fixed 7 digit numbers in the cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh are now 8 digit.
    2. Fixed 6 digit numbers in all the other provinces of Vietnam are now 7 digit.

This change was made by adding a digit between the area code and the old subscriber number. Digits added are:

    • 2 – EVN subscribers
    • 3 – Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group subscribers
    • 4 – Vietnam Multimedia Corporation subscribers
    • 5 – Saigon Postel Corporation subscribers
    • 6 – Viettel subscribers

    Example:

Former telephone number from Hanoi: 8?? ???? with operator Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group now becomes 38?? ????. Dialing this number from the US for example: 011 (US exit code) + 84 (VT. country code) + 4 (Hanoi area code) + 38?? ????.
