    Hi Bob,

It’s actually much simpler: nothing changes in the way people in the US call your number when you travel abroad. Here’s an article explaining in detail how international cell phone roaming works

Actually cell phones in the UK start with 7 not 8 like Irish phones.

Use the same instructions we provide for calling the Pilippines on
    https://www.howtocallabroad.com/philippines/
Basically you should leave out the first zero in the cell number and dial 011 63 91 064….

This is the correct way to send texts. If they don’t go through the problem is somewhere else. Sorry, but it’s hard for me to guess what it is. Often texting does not work because of different technologies used by the two wireless providers. Advise your Russian friend to call his wireless provider and inquire about this.

    Hello,

Ireland has 1, 2 and even several 3 digit area codes (without the starting zero). Generally, for landlines area code + local number total 8 digits. For example, Dublin has area code 1 so local numbers are 7 digit (1 ??? ????). Limerick and most other cities have 2 digit area codes so the local number is 6 digit.

Cellular numbers are 9 digit and have the same format all over Ireland: 8? ??? ????. No area codes are required for cellular numbers.

The starting zero you mentioned is used for dialing within Ireland only.

As I advised you above the correct way to dial is: + 1 616 ??? ????. You must literally enter the plus sign before 1.

011 works from the US and Canada. Other countries have different exit codes. Russia’s exit code is 810 with a pause between 8 and 10. This works for calls, but in order to send text messages you must use the plus sign instead. The plus sign replaces the exit code. You too could use the plus sign instead of 011 when calling/texting to an international number using your US cell phone.

Gran Canaria is a region of Spain so you would use the instructions we provide for dialing from the UK to Spain. This is what you should have: 00 34 6?? ??? ???. For more info use the link below:

    Hello Guinevere,

Your friend should enter +1 ??? ??? ????. The plus sign in the beginning can be entered pressing the star key (*) twice on some phones. Also, your friend must make sure he subscribes to a wireless plan that allows international calling/texting.

    Hello,

The number you are dialing is in South Korea (you wrote North Korea). The dialing sequence looks right to me. Try using another line/service to place the call or make sure your current plan allows placing international calls.

    Hello John,

Normally a call from the US to Canada is an international call because it is a call between two different countries, even though they share the same country code. With the new Google service I believe calls are free this year for calling within North America.

    Hello Harrods,

Most likely this was the voicemail for the two cell numbers. There could two reasons why you were getting the voicemail: cell phones turned off, non coverage area. Generally if the numbers are no longer in use you would get a message telling you just this.

    Hi Martinez,

If the phone rings it usually means that the call does go through.

One thing you should make sure of: area code + cell number should total 10 digits. If you have the following format for the cell number 15 ??? ???? you must drop the starting 15.

    Hi Emily,
You will have to dial the following: 00 41 7879969?? (the starting zero in the cell # is used within Switzerland only).
Your friend would dial: 00 followed by your US cell 1 ??? ??? ???? (if I understand this correctly you are in Germany with your US cell/US sim card).

Strange indeed. Try calling your phone service provider to inquire about this – could be a problem with placing international calls on your wireless plan.

One other thing you can do – try dialing another Argentinian phone number to see if it works.

    Hello,

It’s a bit difficult to guess what the problem is in this case since you say that you can call this number using a different telephone line. Indeed cell numbers in Argentina start with 15 and these two digits must be dropped when dialed from abroad. You shoud have this dialing format from Greece:
    00 54 9 followed by 1o digits (area code + cell number).
