Yes, I just tried the number too and I am getting the same message: the number is currently unavailable, please try later. I am not calling from the US so this voice is most likely an answering machine provided by the Ghana wireless provider. Probably the phone is turned off or the number is no longer in service.

The number you have is wrong. I just tried dialing it and a message in Italian says that the number does not exist. After doing some more research I found that Rome local numbers can also be 7 digit. So it seems that you are just missing the zero in Rome’s area code. In fact I tried dialing the number with the 0 and it works so you should have: 011 39 06 488 1741.

Sure, at the bottom of our Italy page https://www.howtocallabroad.com/italy/ there’s a service we list that provides Italy phone calls. There are many others as well if you do a search on the Internet.

As for dialing this number you have – the number doesn’t look right. You should have 011 39 06 followed by 8 digits which is the local number. 06 is Rome’s area code for landlines.

Both your phones will become local cell phones for calls dialed out, but will remain foreign numbers for calls received. In other words, you will dial your friend as if he/she were still in Australia and your Australian friend will dial your number as if you were in Italy. This is what you and your friend will dial to reach each other:

You calling your friend: 00 61 4 ???? ???? (as you notice the starting zero in the Australian cell must be dropped)

Your friend calling you: 00 39 3?? ??? ????

Note that these calls between you and your friend will likely be pricey.

To dial French numbers just enter them the way locals do.

Well, if it keeps ringing then the call goes through, but the person you are calling isn’t answering for some reason. The dialing sequence looks right (supposing you are in the US or Canada). The number is a cellular phone.

86 is China’s country code. When calling from within China you can also leave out the 86 code and just dial 0139 and so on. From outside China however dialing 86 is mandatory. Moreover, China cell numbers use no area codes. In short, to dial this Chinese cell from the US you should enter: 011 86 139 0822 7890.

You call your US friend in the UK as if he/she were still in the US: 00 1 ??? ??? ????. They call you from their US mobile phones the way other UK people do. One thing you should know: when calling your friends you will pay international charges for calling the US and they too will pay international roaming charges. You might both be better off getting your friend a UK prepaid card with a UK number (make sure they can use it with the US phone).

Hard to say what country this is from as no country has country code 70 or 705. Also the number has too many digits. This number doesn’t look right. Could be a North American number (Ontario has area code 705), but I don’t know why you are seing 5 extra digits at the end.

Sounds like there’s a problem on your end, namely you are not able to direct dial internationally. The way around this, if you can call within Australia is to use a calling card service or something similar. With this type of service you would first dial an Australian access number and then the Romanian cell. Some services that work from Australia are Rebtel https://www.rebtel.com or https://nobelcom.com

For your information: 001 is the exit code or International Direct Dial code used to dial internationally from Hong Kong. The country code for Laos is 856. 20 is the code used with Laos cell phones so your call should be 001 856 20 ?? ??? ???. What is the 8 digit cell number – I can try dialing it just to see if it rings. If it does there is a problem on your end.

This is a phone number from Hong Kong (852 is HK country code). It looks like a special number and that is probably why you can’t call it back (one of those numbers that can not be called from outside the country where they are registered in). Try also dialing 0011 852 1988 ???? to see if it works.

You should drop the zero before 16 (zero is used when dialing within Egypt): 011 20 16 ??? ????. 16 is not an area code – Egypt cell phones do not use area codes, they all have the same dialing format across the country.

Why your girl can not reach you I don’t know – the dialing sequence 00 1 717 followed by the US local number is correct.
